5. Creating Ship Vias for xTupleCommerce

"Ship via" is the term xTuple ERP uses to describe a shipping service. We recommend that you choose your ship vias carefully, with an eye toward being selective in the ones you choose. It's better not to overwhelm customers with too many shipping options, but rather narrow down to the best options. Additionally, if your team requires speciality shipping options like "customer pick-up" or "freight shipping," you can add those to the list.

To set up your ship via options, follow these instructions:

  1. Log into the ERP.

  2. Go to Sales > Setup > Ship Vias.

  3. It's possible you may have ship vias defined already in the ERP. However, ship vias used for your xTupleCommerce shopping cart need to be set up in a particular way. Each online ship via option should represent a different service level from the carrier―for example, ground, overnight, customer pickup, etc.

  4. To add additional ship vias to the list, select the NEW button.

  5. Fill out the ship via Code and Description.

  6. Click SAVE.

  7. After adding the ship vias to the ERP, make a list of the ones you'll need for your shopping cart.

  8. Ensure that the list includes the code and description from the ERP, as well as the name of the carrier, as shown in this example:

  9. Send this information to your xTupleCommerce implementer, who will need to use the administrative back end to expose the desired ship vias on your shopping cart.

  10. Once everything is in place, be sure to test each of the shipping options from xTupleCommerce to ensure they are populating correctly in the sales order.
