7. Updating Using the Updater

The Updater for xTuple ERP is an application that enables you to update your databases from one release to the next, to upgrade from one xTuple ERP edition to another, such as from PostBooks® to Distribution Edition, and to load supplemental extensions into your xTuple database. The Updater reads and processes upgrade packages, which are collections of files bundled together into .gz files. This section describes the process of finding, loading and running these packages using the Updater application.

To perform an update on a database-only server you need to assemble the following pieces:

  • The Updater application.

  • The updater package or packages required to move from your current xTuple ERP database version to your target version.

  • The version of the xTuple desktop client application that corresponds to the database version you are updating to.

Then the process of updating is fairly simple:

  • Run the Updater application.

  • Within the Updater, load the updater package and start the update.

  • In some cases you may need to use the Updater to install multiple updater packages (see below).

  • To access the database you will need to use the xTuple desktop client that corresponds to the version you updated the database to.
