2. On-premise vs. In-the-Cloud

The xTuple server component can run on a server-class machine in your office, or off-site in a public or private cloud environment. Users can install and run their own server or purchase server space from any cloud service provider, and can manage the server on their own locally or in the cloud. Additionally, xTuple offers cloud hosting services where we manage the IT and administration of your server component, provision the hardware and install the software for you.

Using the xTuple cloud service to host your database in the cloud is the fastest, easiest way to use any edition of xTuple—PostBooks®, Distribution, Manufacturing or Enterprise. xTuple cloud hosting includes our off-site backup and recovery service, and also makes it easy to deploy the xTupleCommerce customer web portal.

If you decide to use the xTuple cloud hosting service, just contact your xTuple sales person to start the process of setting up your database in the cloud, and you can skip the next parts of this chapter.
