Updating xTuple is a multi-part process. You must update the database using one of the available tools, such as the Updater utility or xTAU, and you must obtain the corresponding new client software.
The method you use to update your xTuple database depends on whether you are running a non-web-enabled server, or a web-enabled server.
To update a non-web-enabled server, follow the instructions below for using the xTuple Updater application, a utility provided by xTuple that connects to your database and applies updater files.
To update a web-enabled server you will need to use xTAU or the Linux command line. Skip the Updating using the Updater section and go to Updating using XTAU.
Before performing any updates to a database, you should first make a backup copy of the database you are updating. Having a backup ensures you can always go back to the original database if errors occur during the upgrade.
