Promos are visual, promotional pieces of information that you can place on your portal to make it more graphically interesting. There are four types of promos: carousel, teaser, icon, and grid. They all function in a similar fashion but appear in different locations based on which one you choose.
The promo carousel is at the top of the home page and includes images that rotate every few seconds. Each image promotes a different part of your business and can link to specific pages. The promo boxes—teaser, icon, and grid—highlight a promotion of your choice. They are a great way to highlight certain programs or regions and they all entice portal visitors to click and learn more on the corresponding page. If you have any questions about the various promos and how to best utilize them for your web portal, be sure to read the article Designing and Building a Marketing Oriented Home Page with xTupleCommerce.
Below is a list of several common fields found on the promo content type. These fields will vary, depending on promo type:
The administrative title of the promo should relate to the content in the promo. You will also use the administrative title when you're searching existing promos to identify which one to view.
The number of columns in the promo area. We suggest not using more than four columns for your promos, otherwise the content can become overwhelming for your users.
The promo title is what will show up within the promo. This content should relate both to the image and to the page the user may be directed to if they click for more information.
If the user clicks on the promo, you can direct them to a page relating to the content in the promo. The URL for that page, including the "http://", is entered here.
You may want to present the user with a call to action (CTA), such as "Click Here," "Contact Us," or "Try for Free." This CTA will appear in the promo.
Upload the image you want to associate with the promo.
Image file names cannot have special characters or spaces in them (e.g.,
, , , etc.). These will cause the image to not load properly.Enter text to provide additional information about the promo. This text will appear below the title content.
This applies to the carousel only. Specify where on the carousel image you want the title and text to be positioned.
This applies to the carousel only. Depending on your text location and image, you may want to enable a layer between the image and the text that will improve a user's ability to read the text.
The promo boxes—teaser, icon, and grid—can quickly be removed one promo box at a time from the list. Once removed, you can not undo the action. You will have to re-enter the information.
The promo boxes—teaser, icon, and grid—are added one at a time. Click the button and the fields for another promo box will appear. Once you fill out the fields for the promo box, click at the bottom of the page. Once added, the newly-created promo will be the last one on the list.
The promo boxes—teaser, icon, and grid—can be sorted by using the cross hairs to drag and drop the exact promos in the desired order. For example, if a promo has three columns, you can rearrange the promo content by clicking and holding down your mouse on the cross hairs and dragging the promo fields to before or after other content. Once you release your mouse, the box of content will also move. However, the changes that you've made to the order of the promos will not be saved until you clicked the button at the bottom of the page.
