2.2. Creating New Users

From time to time, you will need to create new portal users. For example, even though company employees may have a user account in the ERP, they will also need an xTupleCommerce user account to edit or update content on your portal. Here are the steps to follow when entering a new user:

Note

Visitors who register on your portal will create their own user accounts during the registration process.

  1. Go to Admin > People > Add User.

  2. Enter the user's email address. The email address will become the username for the user when they log onto the portal. Their email address will also become their account name in the ERP.

  3. Enter and confirm the user's password.

  4. Indicate their active status.

  5. Assign the user to a role.

  6. Notify them by email about their new account (optional).

  7. Next, decide whether to create an association between the xTupleCommerce user account and an existing account in xTuple ERP or to create a new contact and account in xTuple ERP for this xTupleCommerce user. Based on your decision, choose one of the following options:

    • Select existing account - Start typing the name of the existing contact you wish to use for the account association. Once their name appears, you can select it from the drop-down list. Their contact information, such as address, will auto-populate in the appropriate fields from the ERP.

    • Create new - A contact record for the user will be created in the ERP, using the contact information entered here. A CRM account will also be created, with both prospect and user designations.

Once the user makes a purchase on your portal, they will be converted from a prospect to a customer. The user designation is for system purposes only. Portal users cannot use their xTupleCommerce credentials to log into your ERP.

  8. Finally, select the CREATE NEW ACCOUNT button to create the new user.

Note

Power users will be interested to know that the UUID of the xTupleCommerce user is stored on the xDruple Users tab of the ERP user's contact record.
