2.8. Backorder Products

Backorder items are unshipped line items on a shipped sales order. For example, if a customer orders three line items, but only one of the line items is shipped, the remaining two line items would be on backorder. You may wish to allow your customers to order items via the web portal even when the items are out of stock. If that is the case, you'll need to enable the Accept Backorders checkbox on the Attributes tab of the Item master. This will allow users to make purchases, even when an item is out of stock.

The Accept Backorders option on the Item master should not be confused with the similarly named feature available on Customer screen.
