4. Setting Required Default UOMs

The xTupleCommerce platform requires that you define default Units of Measure (UOM) for both item weight and item dimension. These are the UOMs your products will need when they are displayed online for sale. Customers will need to know how much a product weighs because the weight influences the freight and/or shipping costs.

Note

Default UOMs for weight and dimension are needed for online product sales. These UOMs may not be the same as a product's inventory UOM.

In the ERP, you can define only one UOM for item weight and only one UOM for item dimension. These selections become the default UOMs for these categories and are the UOMs used to describe your products online. To establish these two UOMs, perform the following steps in your production ERP:

  1. Go to Products > Setup > Master Information > Units of Measure.

  2. In the UOM list, select the UOM you want to be your default UOM for weight (e.g., OZ, LBS, G, KG, etc.). If an appropriate UOM for weight does not exist, you will need to create one.

  3. Click EDIT.

  4. Select the Item weight unit of measure option.

  5. Click SAVE.

  6. Now select a default UOM for dimension (e.g., IN, FT, KM, CM, etc). If an appropriate UOM for dimension does not exist, you will need to create one.

  7. Click EDIT.

  8. Select the Item dimension unit of measure option.

  9. Click SAVE.

  10. Click SAVE again in the bottom right of the Products setup window.
