Back on the Work Order screen with show operations selected we are ready to begin posting operations. Operations are posted individually, one-at-a-time. So we will start at the top with the first operation—the standard paint operation—and then work our way down the list. To post the paint operation, simply right-click on it and choose the
option, as shown in the following screen:On the Post Operations screen there is a
button. You can use this button to show more or less detail, depending on your preference. For our purposes, we want to see all the detail. So select the button to enlarge the screen. The following screenshot shows the Post Operations screen with all its detail presented:While it's possible to post operations for partial quantities and alternate times spent, for this exercise we will use the default values. To post the paint operation, follow these steps:
Enter the full work order quantity of 100 in the To Post field.
Select the Post Setup Time to post the standard setup time and be sure to mark it as complete.
Select the Post Run Time to post the standard run time and be sure to mark it as complete.
Enter a user name in the performed by fields.
Select the
button.If you were to go back and look at the paint operation on the YTRUCK1 routings, you would see the option to auto issue components is selected. This means that materials needed for the operation will be automatically added to the work order. However, in the demo database, paint is a lot-controlled material. This means you have to specifically select and issue the appropriate lot quantity for use in the work order. To successfully distribute the paint quantity, follow these steps:
After selecting the
button, the Distribute Stock screen will appear.Highlight a lot then select the
button.The screen should look as follows:
As you can see, the quantity to be removed from the lot is -1.00 (gallons). Select the
button on the smaller Distribute to Location screen. Now you will see the correct quantity has been tagged and is ready to be distributed:To distribute the paint to the work order, simply select the
button—and you're done! Back on the Work Order screen, we see the full quantity for the paint operation has been posted and received:Now that you know how to post an operation, continue the exercise by posting the remaining two operations. When you are done, it will be time to close the work order.
