The ability to track the cost of labor and overhead during the manufacturing process is one of the key features of both the manufacturing and enterprise editions of xTuple ERP. We touched briefly on this subject in the Manufacturing Process Flow chapter. If you recall, we elected in that chapter to simply backflush operations when posting production. In this chapter, however, we will look more closely at operations—exploring how labor and overhead (i.e., operational costs) factor into inventory costing. We will also see how users can clock in and out of work orders to accurately capture elapsed time.
