The datasource server settings are needed only if a company desires to make a dashboard available outside of the xTuple client, in an external manner. For example, if you want to make a dashboard appear on a web page or as part of another system. If you only wish to serve up dashboards inside the xTuple client, then no special server settings are required for the dashboards to work. One exception may arise if another application is using the same port and a conflict occurs. If so, just change the port number(s) on the server setting screen to an alternate number.
